Location
Muazzo Creta is located in the heart of the village of Pigi, only 9 km east of Rethymno, at an altitude of 60 m and 2 km from the sea. In the neighborhood you will find a playground, a small hotel, a grocery store, a pharmacy, a butcher, three traditional restaurants (tavernas), a bakery, and many more, as the area is constantly developing! At 1.5 km to the north, you will find a go-kart featuring a large playing area, tourist shops and large seaside hotels. Pigi is within 2-5 km of beautiful beaches that are free to access, some offering parasols and restaurant options. It is also 1.5 km from the tourist farm Agreco, 12 km from the historical Arkadi Monastery and 17 km from the ancient Eleftherna and its museum.
The stream - the so-called River - on the village's western side features lush vegetation and the sea breeze that reaches up to this point, influencing the microclimate of Pigi and significantly reducing the temperature during the summer months. The so-called Makri Steno, with its small stone-built buildings, crosses the oldest part of the settlement (Kato Mere). Among these buildings are several houses that are only 3 meters wide and have a depth of more than 25 meters as a consequence of the need to have as many house fronts as possible facing the River. The tree-covered plaza of the village features a monument to the fallen soldiers, an old well and water springs. Walking through the village's alleys, one can see two abandoned stone mills, several two-storey old mansions and four churches. Among them are the prominent Saint Nicholas (reconstructed in 1898) and the stone-built Agia Paraskevi (ca. 18th century) in Makri Steno.
From Rethymno, you drive east on Machis Kritis to the old national road (Ethniki Odos) towards Heraklion and turn right towards Arkadi. Follow the road and turn left after 2 km onto Chamarakis road. The house is after 200 m on your right hand.
